Bush in November 2002.<\/p><p>Its creation signified a reorganization and consolidation of many different federal agencies and departments that were involved in national security and emergency response.\u00a0<\/p><p>The Department of Homeland Security states that its main mission is to protect the American people, the United States\u2019 critical infrastructure, and the country\u2019s essential resources.\u00a0<\/p><p>Primarily, the DHS spends a lot of time and effort on counterterrorism.<\/p><p>The goal of this is to stop terrorist attacks on the United States, fight terrorist networks, and combat internal and international threats to the country.<\/p><p>To this end, the DHS coordinates intelligence gathering and response efforts with various organizations.\u00a0<\/p><p>The DHS is also intensely involved with immigration enforcement.
